As a widow , making a list of "touchstones" had been challenging in the early years. With time,
with JoAnne's help, faith, family and dear friends, and being willing to move forward, slowly, gently and with a quiet joy the 'list" came into being. I have an expanded grateful heart.Doing
activities that give me peace , lift my spirit and connect me to my God come easily, such as
reading, hiking, biking , kayaking, doing for others . Meeting the 'challenge" to move beyond the comfort zone, though at times scary and paralizing ,creates and expansiveness within that
is so healing.Saying "yes" to life with gusto! By the way , society and forms list me as a
"widow" . As for me, I am discovering ," I AM me" and I AM me is ALIVE!Alleluia!

Reframing has been a part of my conscious being. However, it needs to be tweaked once again. Thank you for the reminder. Also this year I am eliminating "I have to" from my vocabulary , spoken and unspoken. Definitely feel the difference within between 'shrinking" and being uplifted."

These are great tips and just what I needed to help me start the year off right! I am printing them out and putting it on my bedside table to re-read and remember. I liked the Grandma Moses quote, too. Another good one is by Eckhart Tolle, "The primary cause of your unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it." Thanks, JoAnne!

I really like this tip. I've always loved the sense of possiblity that comes with the New Year. Something I found myself saying a lot at the end of 2010 was, "I'm so stressed!" I'm going to try and reframe that by saying: "I have much to accomplish today." I also really love the idea of touchstones, and I'm going to start working on my list. I know one thing that will be close to the top of the list is spending time outside. That always helps to calm me and bring me a sense of peace and joy. Thanks for sharing these inspiring thoughts and ideas!

I am hoping to begin this New Year by being less judgmental with myself and with others. I like your idea of practicing this new way for 30 days. And if I fail, I am going to give myself a hug and not beat myself up.
Thanks for your tips! They are a big help.
